Six student-athletes from Delaware Technical Community College’s softball team were recognized during a Sophomore Day ceremony held on April 19. The event took place before a home double-header at the Jack F. Owens Campus in Georgetown. Due to inclement weather, the ceremony was moved indoors to the gym.

The purpose of the event was to acknowledge the contributions and achievements of sophomore players as they near the end of their time with the team. This recognition is an important tradition for college athletic programs, giving players and their families an opportunity to celebrate their experiences.

During the ceremony, each player entered carrying flowers and was escorted by family and friends while their favorite memories and future plans were shared with those in attendance. Each honoree received a personalized poster presented by College Vice President and Owens Campus Director Dr. Bobbi Barends.

The six players honored were Kiersten Anderson, Madison Fox, Maggie Hubbard, Gabrielle Pepper, Cheyenne Silves, and Brooke Widdoes. After the ceremony concluded, Delaware Tech’s softball team won both games against County College of Morris in five-inning matches with scores of 17-1 and 17-0.

Photos from the event are available for viewing online. The celebration marked a milestone for these student-athletes as they prepare for graduation or continued studies.
