A plan for a hemp processing facility, to produce CBD, was the subject of a public hearing with Delaware environmental officials recently.
AgroRefiner, a company based in New Castle, is seeking to turn an existing warehouse located in a protected coastal zone into a facility with the capability of processing approximately 78,000 pounds of dried hemp a year. The plant will produce approximately 7,000 pounds of pure CBD for wholesale distribution.
CBD is an extract from cannabis plants. It is not psychoactive. Users of CBD see benefits in pain relief, helping inflammation, quitting smoking or other drug use, epilepsy, treating neurological disorders, anxiety and cancer, according to medicalnewstoday.com.
Delaware legalized growing industrial hemp in approved circumstances in 2014, according to the National Hemp Foundation. The federal government recently approved agricultural production of hemp in the state, according to the Associated Press.
