A booming housing industry in Sussex County has developers looking for ways to speed up the building process to accommodate the demand.

The numbers are growing as developers have flooded the county with a number of proposals ranging from large-scale apartments to communities featuring upward of 600 homes.

Data from the U.S. Census Bureau supports the notion that the area is growing as the county surged in growth by more than 15 percent between 2010 and 2018, as more than 30,000 new residents came to the Sussex County area.

With more people coming in and development surging, concerns over the lack of affordable housing, high density living and issues with traffic are now issues being discussed by county officials.

Sussex County Council officials have been reviewing a report that revealed that at least 1,500 homes would need to be constructed approximately each year over the next decade to meet demand. The growth rate has already been exceeded by 33 percent, the report showed.
