Town of Bethel issued the following announcement on Feb 26.
Nearly 100 years ago, a handful of old, mysterious, roof-like grave covers were documented in cemeteries in Sussex and Wicomico counties. Their origins were unknown, and most marked graves without headstones. Since then, the roofed graves of Delmarva have been all but forgotten.
The Laurel Historical Society invites the public to Abbott's on Broad Creek on Saturday, March 28th, at 2:00 p.m., for the release of 'The Roofed Graves of Delmarva,' a chronicle of a peculiar local burial custom, featuring a presentation by Laurel author Chris Slavens.
Copies of the book will be available for $15.
